December 2002
The winter is fast approaching, time to wrap up a bit warmer on our rides now, don't forget to bring some gloves. Its good to see all of you on our Saturday morning rides, the exercise is definitely good for you, and as long as you're dressed appropriately we can have some real fun on those wet and muddy days. We don't want you to turn into "fair-weather" cyclists, just wrap up and come for a ride. We occasionally get some really clear days too and these are fantastic for enjoying and getting out into the countryside. Of course if it's really, really bad, we'll stay inside.
Our Wednesday club nights, continue to be a great success, many of you are turning up for these, which is great from 6.30pm to 8pm at the AOAC for 30p per evening. Please could we ask for occasional contributions of ping-pong balls/bats, as we seem to get through quite a few of these.
BECC have now got the virtual-reality cycle trainers, and these are providing some entertainment and some spectacular crashes (without the bruises!) on our club nights. Over the next few months BECC will be setting up a VR racing league where you can race against each other.
Congratulations to those who took part in the very hard and muddy VC Etoile Cyclo-cross, on 24th November, at Lancing Leisure Centre. Matthew Howard came 3rd, Peter Mitchell 5th, Ben Dobbin 8th.
Please can we try and support the BECC Cyclo-cross at Wild Park on 22nd December. If you have any transport problems, then please get in touch.
Matthew Howard received a grant from Southern FM F-und 2000, and has now purchased a new racing bike, with additional funds he and his parents raised. This is a great opportunity for Matthew to really get into road and time-trial racing, good luck Matt.
With regards to membership of VC Jubilee, in the New Year application forms and costs will be requested from all. BECC have kindly set a £10 charge for VC Jubilee members. This incorporates club affiliation to the BCF, and other cycling federations, but individual BCF membership must still be taken out by club riders (depending on age costs between £5-£25). Further information will be forwarded in due course.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

September 2002
Now we are coming into the Autumn-Winter season, our cycle racing calendar changes towards cyclo-cross, mountain biking and other forms of exercise to keep us fit for next season. Our Wednesday nights have returned from 6.30pm to 8pm at the AOAC for 30p per evening.
Congratulations to many and thanks to all who represented the club at races and other events this year, there's still some more to try. See the dates for your diary below and when the Sussex League AGM/presentation is being held.
BECC have been awarded £4430 from Awards For All Lottery Grant, in August 2002 to obtain 4x virtual reality trainers and other necessary equipment to set up a "roller racing league". These will hopefully be available soon, and should be great entertainment as well as an excellent training aid.

Look forward to seeing many of you on Saturdays 10-12am, don't forget to start wrapping up a bit warmer as it gets colder. Or see you on Wednesdays 6.30-8pm, if you cycle in the evening please make sure you have some lights. Other dates yet to be confirmed are a trip to the Cycle Track in Calshot (near Southampton) and a date to meet at somewhere else and ride back to the centre.
Our thanks must go to Dave Gerrey (dad of Daniel and Ben) for turning up most weeks to help out and provide us with some entertainment! and of course thanks to Shelley and Mark.
Sal and Roy
