About us

Welcome to VC Jubilee. One of the best youth development cycling clubs in the South of England and the youth section of Brighton Exclesior Cycling Club (BECC) for adults.

british cyclingVC Jubilee has been running (well, cycling actually) since Mid Summer 1998. Within the first year we had close to 50 members making us the largest club of it's type in the south of England.

On almost our 1st birthday, we received the "British Cycling" (BC)(national governing body) recognised Improve status which put us among the top clubs in the country. We thought that was quite an achievement considering VC Jubilee is voluntarily run and is non profit making. We continued to work towards accreditations as they provide a framework for our club and activities. We then received the new BC recognition and awarded GO-RIDE status, and in October 2004 we became the first cycling club in Britain to achieve ClubMark status.

The fact that we are still going, still with a large membership, shows that we have a good club and that cycling is a good way to keep young people amused. If you are interested in joining, please complete a membership form, (so that we have your contact details) bring it along to one of the session and if you like what we do, then we ask you to pay the membership fee.

We have a joint club "Go-Ride" Open Day with BECC every year. Activities include: skills challenge, Olympic discipline fun events, iMagic virtual reality cycling, coaching, bike maintenance etc. Here's the details about last years event on 14th July 2007 at the AOAC from 10am, see the Open Day programme. It was run just after Bike Week, and just after start of the Tour of France. See our News pages for previous years event programmes and press releases as well as other events we organise each year.

Members aged 9*-18yrs, participate in a broad range of activities that are not all cycling specific but are for the social/personal development of all members (*younger members can come with parental support). The website and Newsletters are published to advise of activities, races etc. The Club holds an annual Prize Presentation at its AGM (March) to recognise the efforts and achievements of its members and volunteers. This does not just reflect competitive achievements it also encompasses commitment and learning. The current trophies awarded are: Track/Circuit race Under 8’s, u10’2, u12’s, u14’s, u16’s, u18’s, MTB/XC Trophy, Challenge Heat Cup, Time Trial Club Awards, Volunteer Awards, BECC Most Dedicated Rider Cup, BECC Juvenile Cup. Read our newsletters to see who the annual winners and champions are.

All adults working with VC Jubilee members are qualified to the national governing body appropriate level. The Club Contact holds copies of their qualifications and first aid certificates. They are also police checked before they are able to work with the clubs young people. We encourage all members/parents/guardians to support any event. We can also offer the ability to go on national governing body coaching courses for those that are interested. See the list of volunteers/coaches below.

We welcome all members of society, therefore if members require additional support to participate in cycle sport please do not hesitate to discuss these with the Club Contact.

School/Club Partnerships

Glebe Middle School Glebe Middle School Partnership - at the beginning of 2006 we also started our first school club link, with Glebe Middle School in Southwick, West Sussex. We provide after-school coaching sessions for years 4/5 once a week. The school is now affiliated to British Cycling, and a couple of teachers have attended the BC Activity Teachers Award so this coaching can be sustained. They have also received a coaching kit bag, with cones, limbos, boxes and bottles etc to help with fun activities.

Rudgwick Primary School Rudgwick Primary School Partnership - during 2005 one of our volunteer coaches started an after school club at Rudgwick Primary School, near Horsham, West Sussex.

Club activities

The club meets twice a week, Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings and we cover several areas of cycling. See the Things we do page for more information on membership and coaching activities.

Mountain biking is the most popular, mainly due to the area the club is based. We also have BMXers, Trials riders and during the summer we do track racing. This enables us to attract more young people to the club and provide them with a bit of variety.

Getting the club members to compete on behalf of the club is something we try to encourage. There are several local races that are ideal for first competitions. We have had good results in all the races our club members have entered, including the schools championships and we hope to continue getting high placings and winning events which will further promote the club. Keep up to date on how are members are getting on in our News section.

So, onto this web site. We wanted to use this site, not only so our club members can keep in touch with what is going on at the club through the news and events section, but also to enable other clubs, either local or miles away, to see what we are doing. As the site becomes more popular we hope to include more information about cycling, with articles from club members and hopefully articles supplied by site visitors who have an interest in cycling and want to pass on experiences and information.

Our Coaches/Volunteers

We'd like to recognise the effort and time committed to the club by many people, which helps the club be one of the most successful cycling youth development clubs in the South East. Their assistance and motivation for the club is endless, thanks must also go to their families. You can find out who they are and read "more about them" by following this link to our Coaches and Volunteers page.

We are always looking out for more volunteers, coaches etc, so if you know anyone...
they should contact Sally Page.
